AutoArt Lamborghini Muira Gold

Decided to lash out a bit after seeing some pics of the Autoart cars, as they have incredible detail, even compared to modern scalextric cars. I love the Muira, so it was my first choice. Now, I do love the look of this Autoart car, but its likely to be the first and last I ever buy. Out of the box, it simply would not run. The magnets were so powerful, and the motor so weak, that the car literally would not move. I tried running the motor in for a few minutes, but that did not help, so I had to open it up and pull all the magnets out (which I would have done eventually anyway I guess). Now it could run, but not very well, and it was very noisy. The rear axle had over 1/8" slop in it, so added in some spacers to fill that in, gave it a good spray with lubricant, ran it in some more, teased out the brushes, and finally went back to the track. This time it actually ran reasonably well, but was still surprisingly noisy. It also tended to jump out of the slot easily, so added some small lead weights towards the front of the car and that improved it quite a bit. It has a very high gear ratio, so its quite slow off the mark, but can build up a good turn of speed on the straight. Probably too much, as it still doesn't handle all that well, but it is at least controllable. I think it would be better and easier to drive with a scalextric gear ratio, but not sure how well it will convert over, as the axles look thicker than the scalex ones. Might look into further one of these days. Then other thing it is sadly missing is a driver, so another job for the near future.
