Strombecker Chaparral 2H - Red #17

This body was one of several donated to me by another collector, for whom I had done several restorations. It was dirty, the rear wing and side windows were missing and the top section covering the space where the ball bearing would go had been removed. It had been badly repaired and repainted inside, so had to undo all that and repaint it, fix the windscreen and add a driver's head. Also made up mu own decals for it as well, following the USA Can Am genre. It had no chassis, so used one of my spare ones, with a mabuchi style motor, scalex guide and gears, but stayed with Strombecker wheels. Had cast my own copies of the 5-spoke wheels for the front, and when I test drove it, I liked the look of the white rims on this car, so found some old stained wheels and painted them white to match the resin ones. Even though the wheelbase is the same as the other strombeckers, the longer body (and maybe extra weight) seems to make it a much better handling car (as best I can tell, anyway).
