Strombecker Ford GT (early model) - White #47

I picked this up as a bit of a bargain on ebay. At first I thought it was quite a bargain as it was advertised as a Ford GT Roadster (it had no roof) and seemed quite a rare car as I could not find any other like it, apart from a Monogram 1/24 version. However, after posting the question on SlotForum, I discovered it was in fact an early sedan version which was simply missing the roof and windscreen (as well as the fuel caps and headlights), whuch was probably why I got it for some a cheap price. None the less, it is still a fairly rare car, as it is an earlier model than the normal Strombecker Ford GT, and was modelled on an earlier version of the real car. It was a bit grubby, and the motor didn't work, but the wheels and axles were present and in good nick. I was able to fit a mabuchi clone small can motor to it, with very little effort, using some custom made adaptors. I also modifed the front of the chassis to take a scalextric push in guide, as I didn't have a suitable guide to fit, and didn't like the original arrangement anyway (which was similar to the CK/1 and C2/k setup). I found the that Scalextric C77 Ford GT was very close to it in dimensions, and was able mould and then cast copies of the windcreen, roof and headlights, which only needed minor adjustments to fit. The fuel caps from the same car were too small, so made copies of the Scalex C46 Porsche 917K fuel caps instead, which were a much better fit. I finished it off by detailing the interior and adding some of my own decals. Is not a bad little runner, very light but a bit hard to handle, so need to spend a bit more time tuning it and adding weight, and maybe even lowering the guide somehow.
