Stabo Mercedes 250 - Maroon #39

This is a conversion project I did for a fellow collector, who wanted it to run on Scalextric track, and also to be dressed up as a rally car. The Stabo cars are beautifully detailed, but have a much wider guide and braids, so I had to grind down the guide posts and twist the braids inwards. It was noisy and slow to begin with, and eventually the motor jammed, and when I took it apart, I found one of the magnets had come loose. For a quality car, I was surprised the magnets were glued in place rather than held in by springs like many other motors. I found some metal glue that could handle reasonably high temperatures, glued it back in and it nows runs quite nicely. Not as fast as the Scalextric cars, but quick enough to make it a nice runner. I made up the decals myself, based on pics I'd researched, and modified a set of Scalextric C52 Escort driving lights to fit to it, with Muira headlight lenses on the top row to finish them off. Didn't have any lenses small enough to fit the bottom lights though.
